“I commissioned Mr George to investigate my 1900’s built house as there were specific areas showing signs of damp/mould on walls. He carried out a tier 2 survey (whole house) lasting approximately two an a half hours. I found him to be extremely thorough , explaining the outcome of tests and their likely causes in plain language. At the end of the survey conclusions were discussed with us and advice offered to eliminate the problems. Matt has a pleasant disposition and easy to communicate with. I would recommend him as a truly independent consultant.” Geoff
“Calling in damp detectives was money well spent. As a first time homeowner the appearance of damp was concerning, especially as we were unsure of the potential causes and did not know who to call. The service we received from Matt was timely, professional, comprehensive, independent and informative. It has enabled us to understand the issues, look to put in place protective measures and look at ways to ensure long term prevention. We feel we received honest and value for money advice, and would recommend damp detectives to anybody in this position.” Alex
Matt is experienced in dealing with a variety of clients from Landlords to domestic property owners. Matt is one of our Damp Detectives and is part of a national independent company. He will conduct the following steps to ensure that you experience a high quality, independent service that will find the cause of your damp and mould problem.
1. Ethical quoting
Contact Matt for an initial, no obligations assessment of your situation and at this time he will give you an initial idea of the cost of the survey. These surveys typically cost less than a standard home buyer’s survey providing excellent value for money. Within his initial scope, he will provide an overview so you know what will need to be inspected and what areas of the property Matt will need access to. This will be sent to you by email and forms the contract between us.
2. Quick Response Time
We aim to conduct your survey to the time requirements you have specified. If Matt feels that he is unable to complete the survey quickly, he will let you know during the initial assessment.
3. Site Visit
If you are happy with the quote then Matt will arrange to come and visit the property and if necessary liaise with tenants, estate agents or the property owners to gain access to the property and undertake the survey. The survey itself normally takes 3 hours for a small residential property. If necessary, Matt will also check on the effectiveness of any remedial actions which might have taken place in the property.
4. Survey Report
Matt will capture all of the necessary information to draft a report during his visit. If you request a written report, he will then send this to you via email in a PDF format within 5-7 days from the receipt of payment, which is due on completion of the survey.
The report includes a variety of elements including a wider scope survey of the entire property as well as;
If you need further clarification on anything in the report or if you are unsatisfied with our findings, Matt will arrange as many appointments as needed to help clarify anything. All revisits are subject to an additional reduced fee.

Damp and mould can make you more likely to have respiratory infections, … babies and children, elderly people and those with existing skin problems may suffer the most.
I’m so glad I contacted Matt George to undertake a damp survey for us! His knowledge in the subject is second to none and following his visit and thorough examination of our house I now feel like an expert myself and have a clear understanding of how to rectify the issues that were identified. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
Damp Detectives are an excellent company. They used their extensive knowledge and experience with help from their equipment to pinpoint the problem. For me it looked like grease on the walls, however it was established that a shower seal had broken and water had dripped over time onto the floor and caused mould to grow on the inside of the plasterboard in a different room. Problem solved.
